Governor Newsom Signs Groundbreaking $6 Billion California Broadband For All Investment

(SACRAMENTO, CA) – Today, Governor Newsom signed SB 156, California’s groundbreaking $6 billion broadband for all budget package. Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella), member of the Closing the Digital Divide Task Force, author of the 2017 Internet for All Now Act, and steadfast champion of legislative efforts to bridge the digital divide, has released the following statement:

 

“Game-changing internet infrastructure funding is heading our way. We are grateful that Governor Newsom has signed our $6 billion ‘broadband for all’ investment to bridge the digital divide in underserved areas like ours and connect our communities to the opportunities we deserve. Access to high-speed internet is a necessity, and after years of persistent efforts, California is delivering on our commitment to achieve internet equity.”
