(SACRAMENTO, CA.)—Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) released the following statement today in regards to the passage of the 2015-2016 state budget agreement and modifications reflective of an agreement with the State Legislature and Governor Brown.

(SACRAMENTO, CA) –– The Senate Environmental Quality Committee passed two critical bills (AB 434/AB 1059) authored by Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) with overwhelmingly bi-partisan support today.

(SACRAMENTO, CA.)—Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) released the following statement regarding today’s passage of the 2015-2016 state budget (AB 93) that passed both the State Assembly and State Senate earlier today.  The budget includes approximately $117.5 billion in General Fund spending and total reserves of $5.7 billion.

“We must make greater investments towards the success of our boys and young men of color in California. We cannot afford to lead the country in the construction of prisons and fail to properly fund our educational system--to date we have had 22 prisons and one university built in the past 20 years and that isn’t working,” stated Assemblymember Garcia.

(SACRAMENTO, CA.) – Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) joined the Assembly Select Committee on the Status of Boys and Men of Color in the first of many hearings to examine the community safety and justice barriers facing many young boys and men of color throughout the state.
