Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia Supports Two Key Veteran Initiatives

Measures would support active-duty service members, veterans, and military families

(SACRAMENTO, CA) –– Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D – Coachella) supported two key veteran initiatives (AB 583 & AB 930) in the Assembly appropriations committee today. AB 930 would authorize the Adjutant General to accept federal funding to supplement the Work for Warriors program. The second bill AB 583 would provide employment protection to members of the National Guard who work in California and are called up by their Governor in another state.

“It is our duty to provide our service members, veterans, and military families the needed protection, and vocational training to put them and their loved ones back to work. Since its establishment, the Work for Warriors has placed more than 3,800 veterans in new careers. The success has even led to the establishment of a Work for Warriors (WFW) Caucus in the US Congress,” stated Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia.

AB 930 would codify the currently successful Work for Warriors program which provides direct placement job services to active-duty service members, veterans, and military families. The bill would authorize the Adjutant General to accept federal funding to supplement this program and to enter into agreements with other state agencies. In particular, the bill would authorize an interagency partnership with the Employment Development Department for purposes of the Work for Warriors program.

Both bills now head to the Assembly floor for a vote.
