Funds allocated from the California Department of Housing and Community Development
(EL CENTRO, CA.) – Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia was in El Centro on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 and presented an Emergency Solutions Grant from the California Department of Housing & Community Development to Womanhaven for rapid re-housing, homelessness prevention and emergency shelter efforts in the area.
“These funds will help keep families together in the Imperial Valley, and will assist those in most need. The services provided by Womanhaven are crucial and will provide emergency solutions and the needed shelter to move ahead in life for many,” said Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia.
The California Department of Housing & Community Development- Emergency Solutions Grants, fund projects that serve homeless individuals and families with supportive services, emergency shelter/transitional housing, assisting persons at risk of becoming homeless with homelessness prevention assistance, and providing permanent housing to the homeless population.
Womanhaven’s mission is to promote and provide a comprehensive response to domestic violence, stalking and human trafficking through Community Outreach & Education, Prevention, Intervention, Client Support Services, Safety and Shelter Services. Their vision is to provide shelter, safety, services and security for victims of domestic violence and their children, and educate the community about this problem, and work to prevent violence with the ultimate goal of eliminating it from our communities.
