Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia’s First CA Air Resources Board Meeting

(Riverside, CA)— Today, Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) participated in his first California Air Resources Board (CARB) meeting since his appointment in February.

“It is an honor to join this esteemed body and I look forward to this opportunity to represent the legislative priorities of the Assembly and ensure greater transparency and accountability as we work to achieve our state’s air quality goals,” shared Assemblymember Garcia. “I am excited to dive right in and ask the tough questions necessary to implement climate change policies that are equitable, sustainable, and address the needs of disadvantaged communities that are most affected by pollution.”

The CARB exists to ensure public health and the protection of ecological resources by administering regulations and programs designed to mitigate air pollutants. A major responsibility of the board is to oversee local and regional air pollution control districts.

The passage of Assemblymember Garcia’s historic AB 197 (Garcia, 2016) created two new non-voting members to CARB to add legislative oversight to increase the board’s transparency and accountability; one each appointed by the State Senate and Assembly.
