(Sacramento – CA)Yesterday, Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) recognized Westmorland restaurant, The Original Town Pump as the Small Business of the Year for the 56th California State Assembly District. Owners, Gabriel, and Juanita Rebollar, accompanied by their daughter Bella, were honored during the California Small Business Day 2019 awards luncheon in Sacramento.
“It is my pleasure to honor The Original Town Pump, as our Small Business of the Year. This beloved, Imperial Valley treasure and one of my own personal favorite spots is well deserving of statewide acclaim for its multiple decades of business success, growth, and tradition of exemplary family-run service,” stated Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia. “I always enjoy this annual occasion to spotlight our local businesses and thank them for their contributions to our state’s robust economy.”
Purchased by Mary and Buddy Brown in the late 1970s, The Original Town Pump then a small bar in Westmorland has since grown into Imperial Valley’s premier steakhouse. The family’s success also includes Brownie’s Diner in Brawley. Both eateries eventually passed down to the Brown’s son and daughter-in-law, Gabriel and Juanita Rebollar.
Today, The Original Town Pump has expanded to hold the capacity for 175 customers and is one of the only Imperial Valley restaurants to offer Brandt Beef. Over the years, Gabriel and Juanita have strived to hire local and give back to the community. They are incredibly engaged and frequently donate to, and offer to host local organizations as well as school clubs and teams. The restaurant is known for creating a memorable dining experience, attracting visitors, and inspiring loyal clientele. Gabriel and Juanita look forward to seeing their family’s business legacy continue for generations to come.
The California Small Business Day annual awards luncheon is hosted by the California Small Business Association. Legislators can nominate small businesses from their districts in celebration of their significant contributions to our regional economies.
