(SACRAMENTO, CA) — Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) has issued the following statement regarding the successful passage of SB 200 (Monning/E. Garcia) which would establish the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund:
“The California Legislature has delivered on our promise to reach an equitable and sustainable safe drinking water solution – one that will work for all Californians.”
“My colleague, Senator Monning, and I set out to address this urgent public health crisis, and I highly commend his steadfast efforts and commitment to the issue.”
“SB 200, the Safe and Affordable Drinking Water Fund, was crafted after years of persistent advocacy, regional tours, and inclusive stakeholder meetings. It would not have been possible without our vast coalition of statewide supporters as well as the leadership of Governor Newsom, Senate President pro Tempore Atkins, and Assembly Speaker Rendon.”
“This new funding mechanism will allow us to rectify our severe water infrastructure disparities and provide access to this fundamental human right to the over one million California residents living in communities without safe and affordable drinking water.”
