(SACRAMENTO, CA) Today, Governor Gavin Newsom presented the 2020-21 California Budget May Revision to the Legislature. As expected, the revision reflected unprecedented challenges and the significant impact of COVID-19. Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) has issued the following response regarding the safeguard of his district priorities:
“I am extremely grateful to Governor Newsom for maintaining the proposed $28 million for the New River Improvement Project and upholding his commitment to our community. This project is a result of years of collaborative local effort and advocacy. The COVID-19 pandemic has only heightened the importance of the New River Improvement Project. This issue remains an absolute public health, environmental justice, and economic priority for our region, and we must continue to raise our voices to ensure the delivery of these funds.”
“The May revision also included an allocation of $19.3 million from our Proposition 68 funds for the Salton Sea Management Plan. Overall, I am pleased to see the inclusion of these district priorities.”
“California is working to meet unprecedented fiscal challenges while maintaining our commitment to core values such as public health, education, public safety, and relief for those most impacted by this pandemic. I commend Governor Newsom and his Administration for their leadership during this crisis. Now in the Legislature’s hands, we must hold strong to preserve funding for essential health, education, and public safety programs to ensure our local entities and small businesses have the resources they need and that our most vulnerable communities are supported on our road to recovery.”
