Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia Applauds California Competes Tax Credit Award for Viridos Calipatria Site Expansion

(Calipatria, CA) – Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) is proud to congratulate local biotechnology company, Viridos, on being selected to receive a highly competitive California Competes Tax Credit from the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz). The Assemblymember also thanks Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation (IVEDC) for the technical assistance they provided in the application process. This award will allow the company to expand its Calipatria site, which produces low-carbon biofuels from algae.

While serving as the Chair of the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development, and the Economy, Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia dedicated legislative efforts to improve the California Competes Tax Credit program and help level the playing field to ensure rural, economically underserved regions like those in his district are better positioned to compete for funding.

Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia has released the following statement:

“Success securing this California Competes Grant will allow Viridos to expand their Calipatria site, create high-paying professional jobs, and help spur nearly $75 million in total investments for Imperial Valley. Driving additional economic investment to uplift our region and generate jobs is our top priority. Over the years, we have put a lot of time and effort into improving the California Competes Tax Credit program to better serve our region, and we want to recognize Imperial Valley Economic Development Corporation for their partnership and the instrumental support their organization provides local companies.”
