(Calexico, CA) - California State Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) joined with border officials to announce his package of bills aimed at improving the air and water quality along the California-Mexico border. The Border Air & Water Quality Legislative Package would require the California Mexico Border Relations Council to better coordinate the funding and implementation of the New River Strategic Plan. The bills would also direct the CalEPA to improve air quality monitoring and better fund environmental improvement projects in the California-Mexico border region.
“We must seek solutions to create healthier border communities,” said Assemblymember Garcia. “ It is our very own California-Mexico border communities that are most impacted by poor water and air quality standards. Our office will be working closely with local stakeholders like Comite Civico del Valle, City of Calexico and the New River Committee to make sure that the Border Air & Water Quality Legislative Package becomes a reality and bring the needed resources to our border region.”
