Assemblymember Garcia Participates in New River Restoration Efforts, Authors Legislation

(Calexico, Ca) – Polluted water flowing from Mexicali, Mexico via the New River into the United States has long been an environmental concern.  California State Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) took part in an Assembly Committee on Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials Hearing, chaired by Assemblymember Luis Alejo (D-Salinas).  The hearing, held at Calexico City Hall, focused on New River restoration efforts.  Assemblymember Garcia recently introduced legislation, Assembly Bill 965, would establish the New River Water Quality, Public Health and River Parkway Development Program, which if passed, would coordinate funding and implement recommendations geared at improving the problems.  Watch this Assembly Access Video to hear some of Assemblymember Garcia’s comments at the hearing.
