Garcia Bill Would Establish Nation’s First Official LGBT Veteran Memorial

(Sacramento) – Legislation written by Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) to designate Cathedral City’s LGBT Veteran Memorial as the state’s official LGBT Veteran Memorial has passed its first committee in the State Senate.  Veteran and gay rights advocate Thomas “Tom” Swann Hernández joined Assemblymember Garcia to provide supportive testimony to the committee. “We treat this memorial as a place for prayer where people can come and have closure and peace of mind, and pay respects to their loved one,” Swann Hernández told the Senate Governmental Organization Committee.
