Assemblymember Garcia Commends Passage of Regional Healthcare District Proposal and Rural Hospital Priorities in Assembly

Imperial Valley Healthcare District, Distressed Hospital Loan Program, and Hospital Seismic Relief Legislation Advance to the State Senate

(Sacramento, CA) — Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia (D-Coachella) commends the successful Assembly passage of AB 918 establishing one united Imperial Valley Healthcare District, AB 412 developing the Distressed Hospital Loan Program to go along with $150 million in loan resources allocated earlier this month, and AB 869 providing rural hospitals with seismic safety compliance relief and delays under certain financial hardship conditions. These healthcare priorities now advance to the State Senate.

“Hospitals throughout rural, underserved areas are struggling to keep their doors open, let alone meet the seismic mandate. We are pursuing urgent legislative action to provide critical hospital relief and protect our community’s healthcare future,” said Garcia.

Assemblymember Eduardo Garcia is deeply concerned about the future of Imperial Valley’s healthcare system. He is devoted to exploring policy solutions and strategic avenues of relief in collaboration with local health leaders and legislative colleagues experiencing similar hardships in their districts. Community input is extremely important to Garcia, and he plans to increase public engagement efforts on the regional healthcare district proposal.
